CLUTTR:
Diffuse dialogues with the voices in Adam McGovern’s head
Welcome to my workday (and night) — the desk is always open in the freelancer’s life. That work is as sporadic as it is diverse, so I’m setting up this roadside stand on the million-lane superhighway of content to make regular contact. Come here for context and subtext on comics, streaming, movies, exhibitions, performance, lit, the art of commerce and music to your eras, and a whole lot of Etc. — miscellany is my specialty!
It’s also my resume — I’ve published the bestselling guide MusicHound World; I write comicbooks; I’ve rendered Lou Reed speechless, been named novelist Glen David Gold’s fav interviewer, and been hostilely reposted on Breitbart in 30+ years as an arts & culture critic (at the Village VOICE, The Rumpus, LA Review of Books, Medium, and others you’ve heard of, with hundreds of articles on HiLobrow.com); I was biographer to a major human rights activist; I wrote the script for a popular computer-game and an indie stage play; composed the lyrics for a Christmas song and both words & (co-composed) music for a Metal one (with hella help from Jesse Krakow); have written speeches and press for pro-peace and immigrant advocacy orgs; and do semiotic analysis for major corporations (wtf is that? Let’s get ahead of ourselves for my first full post).
Here on CLUTTR you’ll read essays and personal history and reviews; you’ll read text that no one else would take and only you will get; you’ll download free unpublished short comics; and hear guest-commentaries on cartoons and metaphysics. Sometimes it will rhyme. It’s a stroll through the stuffed attic of my mind, and anything you stumble into can’t hurt you in the real world. You can leave anytime you want, but I’ll break into a showtune or tapdance to convince you to stay; for now join me as I tiptoe in myself…
What to expect on CLUTTR:
UNDERHEARD: First-time takes on music I’m the last one to listen to
BACK-ROW PASS: Rear-view reviews in which I watch movies I waited way too long to, and hopefully see something new in them
THAT BAD?: A special sub-series of the above, where I finally sit down with the movies everyone says to stay away from and see if they really earned their reputation
CODE-SNITCHING: Adventures down the rabbit-holes and store-aisles of semiotics!
FUNERAL PLAYLISTS: We’ve all heard of “desert island disks,” why not, erm, dead island disks? (h/t Heather Quinlan.) What songs would you program when a famous person dies, or set for your own send-off? I’ll share the picks for mine (spoiler?) and everyone can join in!
PLUS: Pulp heroes of book and stream, psychiatric Q&As, and who knows what else!
[CLUTTR eternally thanks Diana Leto for our logo design!]

Fixing it in “post”: Y’all’s feedback is working already! The first essays on semiotics and Spider-Man will remain as-is to show my growth toward more eye-easing pix and paragraph-breaks as the “early years” progress, but I was persuaded that what everyone sees as the initial foot forward, this pinned intro, could be a bit clearer in its text and more comprehensive in its links. So please enjoy our first remake (Jabba the Hutt is STILL not in it, this I promise you).
